The atmosphere is vibrant, casual, and welcoming. With comfortable counter seats as well as tables, it works equally well for solo travelers, couples, or small groups. The menu offers a fantastic balance of tradition and modern creativity, making it an approachable stop for anyone looking to experience Tokyo’s lively izakaya culture.

A Brief Look at Oden’s History

Did you know that oden has deep historical roots dating back to the Muromachi period with Tofu Dengaku (skewered grilled tofu with miso)? The dashi-rich version we enjoy today truly blossomed during the Edo period. Back then, Edo (present-day Tokyo) was filled with single male workers, making quick-serve street food stalls immensely popular. Skewered ingredients like tofu, konjac, and potatoes were simmered in soy sauce and dashi—creating the original “fast food” of Tokyo’s merchant culture.

The Atmosphere & Food

Ninoya brings that classic street-food energy into a modern, vibrant setting. The restaurant is filled with a lively young crowd and features a clean, beautifully designed space.

Beyond standard ingredients, their oden menu features unique seasonal offerings such as baby octopus (iitako), clam (hamaguri), and Naruto wakame seaweed—plus surprisingly creative options like croissant oden or Camembert oden!

We started with delicate appetizers (otoshi) that beautifully highlighted the restaurant’s mastery of dashi broth and seasonal ingredients.

Classic oden favorites including thick-cut daikon radish, chikuwabu, and tofu, all thoroughly infused with rich, savory dashi. The daikon was so tender it melted in the mouth.

Plump hamaguri clams served in a crystal-clear dashi with fresh wakame seaweed and mitsuba. The shellfish broth adds an extra layer of umami that makes this soup unforgettable.

Clam Oden

A striking seasonal dish featuring a whole baby octopus simmered until surprisingly tender, served over a bed of seaweed in a rich broth.

In addition to oden, they serve flavorful obanzai (side dishes) made with rich dashi, tender beef sinew with daikon, fresh sashimi, and specialty sushi rolls.

🌟 Final Thoughts

Rating: ★4.0 / 5

A lively, clean, and modern izakaya in Daimon that offers a fantastic mix of dashi-simmered oden, fresh sushi, and seasonal side dishes.

While Daimon is packed with countless incredible dining choices—making it hard to resist exploring new spots—Ninoya is a fun, high-quality option that I’d happily drop back into whenever the mood for great oden and sushi strikes.
