🗣 English Support & Practical Notes

There is no English menu, and English communication is minimal. However, ordering is relatively simple: the main choice is between soy sauce–based with pork tonkotsu  broth or salt-based with pork tonkotsu broth ramen .

Like many traditional ramen shops, seating is limited and the space is compact, making it best suited for solo diners or quick meals rather than large groups.

Visitors should not expect a tourist-oriented experience. This is a local neighborhood ramen shop serving regular customers.

A Personal Favorite for Nearly Two Decades

I have been coming to this ramen shop for more than 18 years.

No matter what Google reviews say, and regardless of how many new ramen shops appear in Tokyo, this remains one of my personal favorites.

My order has never changed: tonkotsu shoyu ramen.

Tsurumiya Honten is a special place that I have been visiting for over 18 years! My order is always exactly the same: the Tonkotsu-Shoyu (pork bone and soy sauce broth). It features a rich, creamy soup, thick noodles, tender chashu pork, fresh spinach, and large sheets of crispy nori seaweed. It’s a bowl of pure nostalgia and flavor that never changes!

When I first started coming here around 2008, a bowl cost about ¥750. Today it is closer to ¥1,000 — still quite reasonable.

Back then I was younger, and the combination of rich pork broth and punchy soy sauce tasted almost addictive.

The soup is thick and bold, coated with pork fat that leaves your lips glossy after each bite.

Nearly twenty years later, I sometimes request less oil, but this is still a place I make a point of visiting whenever I return to Japan.

The Secret: Fresh Ginger

One small detail makes the experience especially satisfying.

On the table sits a container of fresh chopped ginger.

Adding a generous amount transforms the bowl:

rich pork fat

bright ginger freshness

The balance between richness and sharpness becomes perfect.

This is my favorite way to eat it.

Atmosphere

The shop is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood ramen restaurant.

Counter seating dominates the small room, and space is limited.

Cleanliness is typical for a ramen shop — nothing fancy, but perfectly functional.

It’s not the kind of stylish ramen bar you might find in places like Roppongi or Ginza.

And that’s completely fine.

What to Expect

This is not a destination ramen restaurant designed for tourists.

It’s simply a local ramen shop in Yokohama, with a loyal base of regular customers.

If you arrive expecting polished service or modern ramen theatrics, you may be disappointed.

But if you love rich, classic iekei ramen, this place can be deeply satisfying.

Final Thoughts

Rating: ★4.3 / 5

This rating is admittedly personal.

But sometimes the restaurants we love most are the ones tied to years of memories.

And for me, this bowl of ramen will always be worth returning for.
