Short Verdict

Hamada (はま多) is a quiet Showa-style seafood restaurant near Tamachi Station serving carefully prepared omakase courses at a remarkably fair price.

Reliable, comfortable, and consistently satisfying — a place for those who simply want to enjoy well-prepared fish without fuss.

🗣 English Support & Practical Notes

There is no English menu, and English communication is very limited. The restaurant is run by an elderly couple, and dinner is omakase-only with three course options.

The menu does not list specific ingredients. For example, it may simply state “grilled fish,” and the actual fish varies by day. Detailed ingredient explanations may be difficult during service.

Because it is a small operation, assistance may be limited during busy times. It is best suited for diners who are comfortable trusting the chef and do not require detailed English explanations.

This restaurant is ideal for visitors who:

  • Enjoy omakase dining
  • Do not have strict dietary restrictions
  • Are happy to relax and accept the daily selection

It may not suit those who prefer to choose individual dishes or require detailed ingredient clarification.

Returning for Consistency

This was my second visit to Hamada.

On my first visit, I chose the smallest omakase course and was impressed by the calm atmosphere and careful preparation.
You can read that review here.

A Reliable Omakase That Never Disappoints

This time, I selected the next course up (¥6,600, tax included), which adds one additional dish — grilled scallop.

What stood out most was not surprise, but consistency.

Some dishes overlapped with my previous visit, yet it did not matter. The execution remained precise and reassuring.

The octopus sashimi was exceptional.

Firm. Crisp.
Remarkably fresh — the texture almost bounced in the mouth.

The grilled scallop was cooked to a perfect medium-rare center.

No dryness.
No overcooking.
Moist and naturally sweet.

Even the grilled fish was thoughtfully changed from my previous visit:

Last time: amberjack.
This time: salmon.

That small adjustment made the experience feel attentive rather than repetitive.

For ¥6,600, the value remains extremely fair for this level of quality.

Atmosphere

The space feels like a Showa-era small Japanese restaurant.

Calm.
Quiet.
Unpretentious.

During my visit, a few groups entered but left after learning that dinner was omakase-only.

In a way, that defines the restaurant clearly: it is for those who come to enjoy a proper meal rather than browse options.

Final Thoughts

Rating: ★4.6 / 5
Revisit: Possibly — on a night when I want quietly excellent fish.

Reliable quality without theatrics.

If you are comfortable placing yourself in the chef’s hands, this restaurant delivers.
