🗣 English Support & Practical Notes
The menu is written in Japanese only, and English ability is limited. However, the staff are friendly and patient, and basic communication is usually possible.
Lunch operates on a clear set menu system, so ordering is relatively straightforward once you identify the dish name. Pointing to menu items can work if needed.
Dinner is omakase-style and significantly more expensive, so it may be less suitable for travelers who prefer flexible ordering.
This restaurant suits visitors who are comfortable navigating simple Japanese menus and who appreciate a quiet, local atmosphere. It may not be ideal for those seeking extensive English explanations or a highly tourist-oriented setting.
Returning and Confirming
Some restaurants impress you once.
Some confirm themselves the second time.
Tantan Sai belongs to the latter.
On my first visit, I had the oyster fry set — crisp, indulgent, very satisfying.
You can read that review here.
This time, I ordered what I had originally been curious about: the seafood bara chirashi.
It was the right decision.
The Seafood Bara Chirashi

The rice is already seasoned — balanced and subtle.
No soy sauce needed. Just a touch of wasabi.
On top:
- Tuna
- Sea bream
- Firm white fish
- Cubes of tamagoyaki
- Salmon roe
- Tobiko
Soft, firm, glossy, popping.
The textures layer beautifully.
Elegant without trying too hard.
This is what a slightly refined Japanese lunch in Aoyama should taste like.
The Atmosphere (Counter Seat This Time)

From the counter, I could see the small inner garden.
Seasonal flowers.
A delicate display of hina dolls placed in front of bamboo fencing.
That quiet placement of the season — that is what makes this place memorable.
Minami Aoyama, yet calm.
Stylish, but not loud.
Adult without being stiff.
⭐ Final Thoughts
Rating: ★4.4 / 5
Revisit: Yes.
When you return to a restaurant and feel reassured rather than surprised,
that is a sign of quiet excellence.
Not flashy.
Not trendy.
Just steady — and very good.
