🗣 English Support & Practical Notes

There is no English menu, and English communication appears limited. However, the restaurant mainly serves an omakase course, which simplifies ordering for visitors.

‼️Before 9:00 pm, the restaurant typically offers omakase courses only.
‼️After 9:00 pm, guests may order dishes à la carte.

This makes the restaurant fairly accessible for visitors who are comfortable with Japanese-style dining and flexible about what is served.

A Hidden Seafood Kappo in Shimbashi

Sakana-masemase is located inside a multi-tenant office building in Shimbashi, making it somewhat difficult to find at first.

The entrance feels slightly intimidating, but once inside the restaurant reveals itself as a calm and comfortable kappo-style Japanese restaurant.

The meal is structured around seasonal seafood, typically served as an omakase-style progression of dishes.

A Well-Balanced Seafood Omakase

The meal consisted of a balanced sequence of dishes typical for a Japanese kappo dinner:

  • small appetizers
  • simmered dishes
  • grilled fish
  • sashimi
  • a finishing rice dish

Everything was carefully prepared and satisfying without being overly heavy.

One particularly memorable dish was raw shirasu (tiny whitebait fish), which added a bright, fresh element to the meal.

Overall, the cooking style is not flashy, but it reflects the quiet craftsmanship typical of traditional Japanese small restaurants.

Atmosphere

The restaurant has the relaxed atmosphere of a small kozara-ya style Japanese restaurant.

Because it is located inside a commercial building, it has a strong hidden gem feeling.

Once inside, the dining room is calm and understated — a comfortable place to enjoy fish dishes and drinks without distractions.

How It Compares in Shimbashi

Shimbashi is known for having many small Japanese restaurants, particularly seafood-focused eateries.

Within that competitive environment, Sakana-masemase stands out for offering a good balance of:

  • price
  • food quality
  • atmosphere

It is not the most famous restaurant in the area, but it offers a solid and enjoyable dining experience.

Final Thoughts

Rating: ★4.1 / 5

A pleasant seafood kappo restaurant with good value for Shimbashi.

While I enjoyed the visit during my Shimbashi stay in October–November 2025, I’m not certain whether I will return during my current stay in Tamachi — but it remains a good option for relaxed seafood dining.
